LDS version of Simon?
by cappytan inmormon leaders have moved to excommunicate the prominent founder of an online forum for questioning mormons, charging him with apostasy for publicly supporting same-sex marriage and the ordination of women, and for challenging church teaching.. .

You like JWs because they share your delusions.

Just shovel the coal, don't question the captain
by St George of England inon jw broadcasting there is a video of a missionary couple who were sent to a navajo reservation.
the sister says the thing she learned most at bethel was "shovel the coal, don't question the captain".
it's worth watching about 60 seconds from the 4 minute mark.

I think some people are truly happy being just a gear or a screw.
Some people need to be mindless cogs. Someone else makes all the decisions and accepts all the responsibility for those decisions. The cog is free from responsibility in their own lives.
Why do you think believers get so offended when you tell them to think for themselves? You are threatening their only perceived means of survival: following the minds of others.
Many mental and emotional followers cannot even comprehend mental and emotional freedom. It is a foreign language they have never bothered to learn.

Did Polonius kill his wife? A problem with apolegetics
by bohm ina basic problem with christian apologetics when applied to the bible is that it relies on the tacit assumption you can draw reliable conclusions on the material.
the most common form of apologetics start out by certain claims (the tomb was found empty, the disciples had post-crusifiction experiences of jesus that transformed their lives, etc.
this is hearsay since the person who made the statement cannot be sworn in.

Why would anyone care to dissect the events surrounding Jesus' resurrection in order to know the truth about it?
I agree with Honesty.
Whats the point of examining everyone's myths. Its a waste a time. Pretending to know what you don't know is not a virtue, knowledge, or intelligence. Just arrogance, narcissism, and delusions.
People like theology because its easy.

In a way they are like Jehovah's witnesses on steroids, they tear everything down.
But offer nothing in its place standing over the ruins of faith. This is profoundly naive and immature.
You're complaining that ignorance is being torn down. You condemn as liars the people pointing out simple, obvious facts. Followed by whining that reality, freedom, and knowledge aren't enough to satisfy your neediness.
Go back to your superstitions. Your babysitters are waiting.

Shana, just don't lie.
First acknowledge your quote was incorrect.
Then make your point intelligently and honestly.
Why is this so hard for some people?

Je Suis Charlie
by Slidin Fast inthis incident in paris makes me feel absolutely furious.
yes i feel desperately sorry for the victims and their families no one should have to deal with that.
the thing that makes me feel absolutely incandescent though is the attack on freedom of speech and expression.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

Religion is control.
Spirituality is narcissism.
Dehumanization is the tool to accomplish both.

Still pointing your Finger when having a Rafter in your eye?
by DocHouse inyes- everyone has faults and makes mistakes; an organization even more so.. yet, you ignore all the fingers pointing at you.. many here have no faith.
many here go to churches who lie about everything biblical; look at x-mas!.
but at least we know god and christ and try to live up to their name!.
